A Week In Rome

have magic will travel Dec 21, 2023

For my 33rd birthday, I planned an entire week in Rome for Freddie and I. We had THE BEST time and truly got the most out of the week. If you're ready to do it ALL, I highly recommend using the following itinerary as your guidance system.

Arrival: We ended up booking an Airbnb which I thought was an independent unit, but we ended up sharing the common spaces with another room next to ours. The hosts were very responsive and helpful but I don't necessarily feel like the Airbnb is worth sharing. The only notes I would give you regarding choosing where to stay would be:

  1. Stay somewhere that is easily accessible to the main parts of the city
  2. Somewhere that has air conditioning (if you are visiting in the Summer)

Day One: After dropping our luggage off we headed straight for the colosseum vicinity to check out the area and grab dinner. We ended up eating at this adorable little restaurant called Ristorante Pizza Forum Roma - Forno a Legna. I highly recommend their ricotta stuffed pizza and an aperol spritz. YUM!

Day Two: We ended up booking a Crypt Tour on Airbnb and honestly...it was terrible. The guide was amazing but the tour itself...extremely morbid and inconvenient. Freddie and I both had our stomachs turn and had to pay for multiple parts of the tour out of pocket. I've been to the catacombs in Paris and this was NOTHING like it. It was GREAT for making friends and cooling off in the heat, but not so great for the experience itself.

After the crypt experience we had some gelato at one of the nearby shops and then ventured off to Frascati for a wine and pasta making experience with Cantine Capponi. Frascati was a short train ride away from Rome and it was ABSOLUTLEY worth it. Not only was the experience itself fun, insightful, and delicious - it was really cool to be able to get out of the city center for an evening. 10/10 recommend!

Day Three: We started off our morning by riding scooters over to Tritone 1884 for brunch and it was absolutely incredible. Some of the best butternut ravioli I have ever had in my life! After that we walked to the Trevi Fountain. For the best photo possible, I recommend going up the stairs and taking an image from the side of the fountain. Trying to get down in front of the fountain is sheer madness and it smells terrible.

Day Four: Freddie planned a cycling around Rome experience for us, which was REALLY fun. If you're doing this in the Summer, be prepared for the heat and wear sunglasses that cover your eyes from all angles, as mine were very badly burnt in my Ray Bans.

Day Five: We were SUPER lucky and were able to book a colosseum front of the line tour. The tour was boring as hell but seeing inside the colosseum was absolutely spectacular. For the best photos and experience I recommend visiting 1 hour before closing. Check Airbnb Experiences and local tour companies for the best rate. We paid 50 euros per ticket.

Day Six: On day six, I had planned a professional photoshoot through one of the companies on Airbnb, I am not going to mention which company we used because as a model, I am very particular about photographers. The one that took our photos this day is not someone I would refer to others due to his personality and passion for the craft. However, we got a few great shots which made the experience worth the investment.

After the shoot, we ventured over to The Vatican, which is a must-see when in Rome. We bought our tickets from a local tour company. Tip: Do not be late and do not go straight to The Vatican, you have to go to their specific office and they will walk you in. Ladies, they make you cover your shoulders. After the Vatican we went to the BEST local restaurant for dinner. The restaurant was called Cicilardone a MonteCaruso.

Day Seven: We booked an Amalfi Coast and Pompeii Day Tour which was worth every penny! Make sure you have plenty of money on you when visiting the Amalfi Coast and bring your tripod for Pompeii.
